Instructions for Authors


The papers are generally invited, but voluntary contributions are also welcomed.

Submission of manuscripts. Manuscripts should not exceed 50,000 strokes, including spaces. Articles will be in English, with a short English abstract.   
Manuscripts should be submitted to Silvano Traverso, Editor-in-Chief, either via e-mail ( silvano.traverso@tilgher.it ) or by mail (c/o Tilgher-Genova, Publishing Company, via Assarotti 31, I-16122 Genova, Italy). In the latter case, please enclose an electronic version on disk.

File Formats. The electronic version of the paper should be in Word, RTF or ASCII format. Preferred formats for images are TIFF, GIF or JPEG.

The title page should comprise: a (possibly short) title; first name(s) and surname(s) of author(s); Institute; address; e-mail address; running title (no more than 35 strokes). 3 to 5 key words should be included in the title page.

Layout. The text should be divided into sections (5 to 8) preceded by subtitles. An introductory section framing the subject into a more general context is advisable. 

References in the text should be by name and year of publication (e.g., Murdock [1965]; McGrew [1979], [1992]; Kaplan et al. [2000]; Noss and Hewlett [2001]), and the list at the end of the paper should be in the alphabetic order of the authors, with titles in full, as follows:

Language revision. When requested by authors, editors or referees, Rivista di Biologia / Biology Forum may have papers revised by English-speaking translators. Revision costs will be charged to the authors.

Proofs. Page proofs will be sent to the author for the definitive correction. Please reduce amendments or additions to a minimum. Proofs should be sent to the Publisher in Genoa. If the corrected proofs are not returned in due time (about two weeks) the papers will be printed with editorial corrections only.

Offprints. Information about offprints will be supplied together with the proofs.
